Iranian Lawmaker Rejects US Role in Strait of Hormuz Shipping Plan
(MENAFN) A senior Iranian legislator has warned that any United States involvement in managing maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a breach of the existing ceasefire framework, according to reports.
As stated by reports, Ibrahim Azizi said that Washington’s proposed role in overseeing shipping activity in the waterway would not be accepted by Tehran and would violate the terms of the ceasefire arrangement.
In comments posted on social media platform X, Azizi rejected the idea of external control over the region’s maritime routes, arguing that the Gulf and the strait are not subject to unilateral management by the United States.
“No one would believe Blame Game scenarios!” he added.
According to general accounts, his remarks were a direct response to statements by US President Donald Trump, who said the US would begin assisting neutral vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz by guiding them through restricted waters.
As stated by reports, Trump described the initiative as a humanitarian measure aimed at supporting countries not involved in the wider conflict, while ensuring safe passage for commercial shipping.
He also wrote that the effort was intended “for the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States,” framing it as a temporary safety operation in response to ongoing maritime disruptions.
