Azerbaijan, Iran Officials Discuss Growing Middle East Tensions

(MENAFN) Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a phone conversation on Monday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, during which both sides voiced “deep concern” over the worsening situation in the Middle East.

According to a statement, the two officials stressed the urgent need to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing ongoing military confrontations to a swift end. They highlighted dialogue as a key path toward reducing tensions and restoring stability.

In addition to regional matters, Bayramov and Araghchi discussed various bilateral topics of shared interest, as stated in the release.

The heightened concern comes as the region remains on edge following a major air campaign launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28. Reports indicate that more than 1,340 people have been killed in the strikes, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response to the attacks, Iran has carried out retaliatory drone and missile operations targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf nations hosting US military installations. These actions have reportedly resulted in casualties, damage to infrastructure, and widespread disruption to global markets and aviation systems.
