S. Korean FM Urges Iran to Guarantee Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
The appeal was made during a phone discussion with Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi, held against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions following recent military developments involving the United States and Israel.
The situation in the Middle East has remained volatile since late February, when coordinated strikes by Washington and Tel Aviv targeted Iran, resulting in significant casualties, including the death of Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched a series of drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel as well as neighboring countries such as Jordan and Iraq, in addition to Gulf states hosting US military facilities. These actions have led to further loss of life, infrastructure damage, and widespread disruption across global markets and air travel.
Amid the unfolding crisis, Tehran has asserted control over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for the transportation of energy supplies and other goods to much of Asia, heightening international concerns over the security of this key maritime corridor.
