Colombian, French Leaders Confer on Middle East Crisis
The conversation reportedly lasted over 30 minutes, during which Macron expressed appreciation for Petro’s peace efforts and highlighted the importance of dialogue and a ceasefire to resolve the conflict.
“Macron will help us expand the number of countries seeking an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East,” Petro said on the social media platform X.
The call took place amid ongoing joint military operations by Israel and the United States against Iran, which began on February 28. Reports estimate that these strikes have so far resulted in roughly 1,300 deaths, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation, as stated by reports.
