Ukraine Warns of Missile Shortages Amid Middle East Conflict

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has highlighted that his country is experiencing a missile shortage as a result of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking in an interview, Zelenskyy expressed concern about the broader consequences of regional tensions on the war with Russia, now entering its fifth year. He said he had a "very bad feeling" about the situation and noted that peace negotiations are being "constantly postponed” because of the conflict involving Iran.

Zelenskyy explained that the current dynamics are favoring Russia, pointing out the surge in energy prices and warning of a potential "deficit" of missiles for Ukraine.

“In addition to energy prices, it means the depletion of US reserves, and the depletion of air defense manufacturers. So, we (Ukraine) have a depletion of resources,” he stated, emphasizing the strain on military supplies.

The president specifically mentioned that there would “definitely” be a shortage of Patriot missiles, describing it as "a challenge," and raised concerns about the timeline, asking when the stockpiles in the Middle East will run out.

“America produces 60-65 missiles per month. Imagine, 65 missiles per month is about 700-800 missiles per year, produced each year. And on the first day in the Middle East war, 803 missiles were used,” Zelenskyy added, underlining the rapid depletion of global reserves.

Tensions in the region intensified after the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, which reportedly resulted in around 1,300 casualties, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has since carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military facilities. These attacks have caused both human and infrastructural damage while disrupting international markets and aviation operations.
