India Calls References to PM Modi in Epstein Files ‘Trashy Ruminations’

(MENAFN) India has dismissed references to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the recently released investigative files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, calling them “trashy ruminations.”

“We have seen reports of an email message from the so-called Epstein files that has a reference to the prime minister and his visit to Israel,” the Indian External Affairs Ministry said over the weekend.

"Beyond the fact of the prime minister’s official visit to Israel in July 2017,” the ministry added, “the rest of the allusions in the email are little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal, which deserve to be dismissed with the utmost contempt.”

The alleged reference to Modi and his Israel visit appeared in an email among the files released last week. India’s main opposition, the Congress party, has called on the prime minister to “personally come clean on these disturbing disclosures that raise serious questions.”

Modi’s ruling Bhartiya Janata Party countered the allegations, accusing the Congress of fabricating the email to “falsely implicate” the prime minister. According to reports, Epstein mentioned India and Modi in the context of expressing interest in strengthening US-India ties.

He allegedly claimed he would arrange a meeting between Modi and Republican strategist Steve Bannon shortly after the 2019 general election.

The unsealed US court documents have exposed the names of world leaders, royals, billionaires, and other elites linked to Epstein. The release of more than three million pages of records by the US Justice Department in a high-profile sex trafficking case has shed light on powerful figures allegedly connected to Epstein, revealing ties to political leaders, royalty, diplomats, and business figures across multiple continents.
